AustCycle recently piloted their Junior Riding Program by running school holiday cycle camps across NSW for children aged between 5 and 12 – and the courses were a great success!
Lessons were held across three days in the Sutherland Shire, Gosford, Sydney Olympic Park and Pittwater, with two different programs available for enrolment.
A ‘Bike Control’ program was held from 10am until 12pm each day, teaching children to control their bikes through a range of bike handling skills. While a ‘Road Safety’ program ran from 1pm until 3pm for children to learn to effectively scan and identify hazards while riding, signal safely while riding in traffic and correctly negotiate intersections and roundabouts.
For just $35 children got 6-hours of training with two accredited AustCycle Teachers, a participant pack and a certificate, all of which proved to be a big hit with the kids.
One parent Michelle Joose told AustCycle how the progam had really helped her son.
“My son Mitchell went from barely going near a bike to almost riding totally independently. He is very proud of himself, as are we. He hasn’t taken off the jumper he won from Charlene for most improved”.
Gill Sheldon, mother of one of the boys who attended the Pittwater course, also had nothing but praise for the course.
“His school suggested the program in their newsletter and I am very grateful for the opportunities our son had to improve his confidence and bike riding skills. In addition, he learnt about bike safety and has been showing us things he remembered over the last few days”.
“I will be recommending this program to the parents I know and will certainly be booking our son into future holiday programs that you offer. Once again, thankyou very much for the program”.
